Teacher story Esther

Meet Esther van Lieshout, the study advisor for the International Food & Agribusiness (IFA) programme at HAS green academy. Esther has been part of HAS green academy for 16 years, building extensive experience in supporting students during their studies and helping them get the most out of their time at the academy.

Working at HAS

"I started at HAS green academy in the International Office, where I worked closely with international students and staff. Later, I had the opportunity to become the study advisor for the International Food & Agribusiness programme," Esther explains.

"This role has allowed me to work directly with students, which is something I truly enjoy." Over the years, she has gained expertise in applied psychology and coaching, skills that are essential in her role. "My role is to help students improve their learning skills and guide them in setting their goals. I also support students with specific needs to ensure they can succeed in their studies. Whether it’s personal challenges or academic hurdles, I’m here to help them navigate their path."

Supporting students

"I enjoy helping students and seeing them grow into confident young professionals," says Esther. "It’s a great feeling to know you’ve contributed to their development. For me, it’s not just about solving problems but also about helping students discover their strengths and what they’re capable of achieving."

She’s also proud of the collaborative spirit within the IFA team. "We focus on solutions and finding opportunities, which creates a positive environment for everyone. We work closely as a team to ensure that students feel supported and can thrive."

Give yourself some time. You do not need to know everything from the start.

The HAS community

I am proud of the study programme IFA as a whole. We have been around for over 10 years, we have delivered over 200 bright minds and our message is more relevant than ever.

In addition, the atmosphere at HAS is excellent! It is a great mixture of pleasant Brabantian hospitality, low-threshold Dutch mindsets and an international approachability. A unique yet calm learning and working environment.

Advice for new students

For those starting their studies, Esther advises: "Give yourself some time. You do not need to know everything from the start. Focus on what interests you and take it step by step. It’s normal to feel a bit overwhelmed at first. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or seek help when you need it—there are always people here who are happy to support you."
