Albert Vermuë appointed member of the Board of Trustees of HAS University of Applied Sciences

Albert Vermuë has a genuine affinity with the agrifood and living environment sector, and believes in tackling the challenges facing the sector together.

Director of Environmental Policy at the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG) Albert Vermuë was appointed member of the Board of Trustees at HAS University of Applied Sciences on 1 November. He succeeds Anton van Doornmalen - co-owner and chairman of the Supervisory Board of RijkZwaan, who has been a member of the Supervisory Board at HAS University of Applied Sciences since 2008.

Broad experience in the sector

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of HAS University of Applied Sciences Hans Huijbers welcomes the appointment of Albert Vermuë: “Albert has broad experience in the agrifood and living environment sector and is well connected to an important field of work of HAS University of Applied Sciences: the Southwest Delta. His position at the VNG gives a strong boost to the Board of Trustees' profile in the field of the living environment.” Albert's arrival also marks the departure of Anton van Doornmalen, who retired on 1 October. “Anton has made a significant contribution to the development of HAS University of Applied Sciences over the past 11 years, with his keen eye for the quality of education, the connection to the sector and the importance of good human resources management. We’re grateful to him for all that he’s done.”

HAS University of Applied Sciences alumnus

Albert Vermuë was appointed Director of Environmental Policy at VNG this autumn. Prior to this, his positions included, General Manager of the Dutch Water Authorities, Director of Fisheries and Deputy Director International Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. Since 2014, he has also been Secretary General of the General European Water Management Association (EUWMA). After graduating from HAS University of Applied Sciences in 1987, Albert went on to complete his masters at Wageningen University & Research.

Unified leadership

Albert is a passionate manager, working on the basis of unified leadership with short lines of communication and clear objectives. He has a genuine affinity with the agrifood and living environment sector, and believes in tackling the challenges facing the sector together. He looks forward to contributing as a member of the Board of Trustees: “The coming years will see major changes to our landscape, the agricultural sector and the way in which we want to protect our living environment. It is important that these changes are properly designed. To achieve this, we need well-trained professionals who combine policy and theory with practical knowledge and workable solutions.
