Once again, HAS University of Applied Sciences have increased when it comes to general student satisfaction: on a scale of 1 to 5 (where 5 is the highest), the score has risen from 4.11 in 2016 to 4.17 in 2017. This impressive score is considerably higher than the Dutch national average of 3.97.  The 4 study programmes offered on the Venlo site score highest, with an average of: 4.20. For the 10

Unique HAS Concept

Dick Pouwels, Chair of the Board of Governors at HAS University of Applied Sciences is delighted with results of the survey: “These results confirm that what students, lecturers and our professional business partners are achieving is quite unique. We’re a leading university of applied sciences: not just in terms of teaching young people, but also in how we collaborate with leading companies in the food and agribusiness sector. This forms the basis for our unique concept in which students develop to their full potential: working continuously together with companies to create innovative practical solutions to the current and future challenges facing the sector. Our ambition is to achieve a minimum satisfaction score of 4.20. This year’s increase shows that we’re on the right track to realising this ambition.”

Connecting with socially relevant issues

By making a conscious decision to focus on particular issues, HAS University of Applied Sciences is continuously searching for the connection with topics relevant for society in the areas of agribusiness, food and the environment in which we live. Examples include: using residual flows, new proteins, soil fertility, cultivation without daylight, nature-inclusive agriculture, smart farming, target group-based foods, food enhancement,
consumer confidence and location-based data.

Valued by professionals too

This is why the assessment given to HAS University of Applied Sciences by professionals is also so important. The bi-annual customer satisfaction survey carried out among our business students this year by Cedeo produced an average result of 9.7 out of 10 for the open courses and 9.4 for the tailor-made courses. The results of the survey have never been so high.

Assesment on 17 topics

Student satisfaction is based on 17 topics across all kinds of areas: from study content to general skills, from support to internships, but also the timetable and workload as well as the location and study environment. On the topics preparation for a career, group sizes and general skills, HAS scored highly. This was also the case with the international aspects such as studying abroad. The scores for timetable and location were slightly lower. HAS is working continuously to improve lower scores and the strategic plan includes a programme ‘professionalization of the working environment’.
