The new Co-Creation Lab officially opened its doors on Thursday 17 September 2015 at the former Floriade complex in Venlo. In the lab companies, researchers and students can work on innovative and sustainable food designs. It is a breeding ground for new products in the field of healthy eating. The lab comprises a cooking and taste centre, a lecture theatre, processing areas and testing facilities. The lab is open-plan and innovative in style.

Experimenting with taste combinations

The lab’s first users are students following the FreshFood& Innovation study programme at HAS University of Applied Sciences in Venlo. The students join forces with companies to work on new food designs and experiment with different taste combinations and preparation methods. Maastricht University is also going to use the lab to conduct research into the relationship between food and health. The lab will also be used by the Kids University for Cooking and Kokkerelli initiative. Under the motto 'Food = Fun’ children experience the story behind healthy products in an exciting and unusual way.

The lab is part of the Brightlands Greenport Venlo development. The former Floriade complex is also home to the research and education centre BrightBox, an initiative by Philips Lighting, the company Botany and HAS University of Applied Sciences. At the centre experiments are being conducted into growing vegetables with the use of artificial light.
