Business Administration

"The ‘Business Administration for Pig Farming’ study programme helps business people and managers to develop the skills they need in their job further."

Topics such as scale increases, smart farming, government policy, changing world markets and, in dairy farming, the abolition of the milk quota are well-known current themes in livestock farming. These topics influence the way businesses are run. Livestock farmers are increasingly expected to think like business people and leaders. In the old days, a farmer was a skilled craftsman who knew everything about the animals in his stall. Now, he or she is a manager, a skilled craftsman and a businessman or woman all rolled into one and is expected to comply with a multitude of different requirements.

Developing business and management skills further

The ‘Business Administration for Pig Farming’ study programme helps business people and managers to develop the skills they need in their job further. The way they run their business is examined in the light of the challenges facing pig farming. This results in new products, processes and business models. Current topics from a business administration perspective provide added substance. The theory is applied directly to practical situations in the student’s own company. This is a Higher Professional Education (HBO) level study programme.

Content of the study programme

The complete study programme consists of 6 modules. It is also possible to take only one or a few of the modules. The modules are: Strategic management, Financial management, Smart Farming, Labour management, Chain management & cooperation and Risk management & purchasing management.
