Animal and environment
Keeping animals has an impact on the environment. More sustainable animal husbandry systems reduce the harmful effects on the environment. The Animal Welfare and Technology professorship of HAS green academy is conducting research into this.
Diverse factors such as the type of housing, the number and stocking density of animals, bedding material and the manure policy in the barn or animal house also have an influence. There is also a link between emissions and the indoor climate in the barn or house.
This is also important for animal health and the health of stockpersons. We study sustainable systems for dairy cows, horses, pigs and poultry. Emissions and CO2 footprint as well as animal health are taken into account. We work with various existing sensors to measure emissions in animal housing.
